1980s Wheelies
Bins trialled, Recycling banks introduced
Early 1990s Bellbrook Material Reclamation Facility in Uckfield
1995 Recycling Rate 4.5% from community recycling points alone
Consultation Blue box kerbside scheme (paper and cans)
1997 Covered 1/3 District Recycling Rate increased to 7.5%
1998 2003: CROWN (Composting and Recycling Our Waste Now) introduced to 37
500 of 62 000 households (urban and semi-urban areas)
2001 - Awarded Beacon Status for Dealing with Waste
2005/6: WDC recycles/composts
29% of collected household waste (Nearly 50% in CROWN areas). 18 000 tonnes
of materials diverted from landfill |

Bellbrook Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) |
| |
Wealden District
Council operates its own Materials Reclamation Facility (MRF) at Bellbrook
Industrial Estate in Uckfield, where recyclable household waste collected
from households in Wealden and parts of East Sussex and Kent sorted and
stored.
Glass, paper, cans and plastic bottles are all sorted here before being
transported in larger loads to recycling plants. |
