An essential event for managers addressing critical waste and recycling service issues, the Achieving Innovative Waste Management Practices conference held at Ettington Chase, Stratford-upon-Avon, 6th February 2007, attracted delegates from local authorities across the UK.

Speakers included Brian Mayne, Waste Specialist Consultant and Andy Firman, Operational Manager, Sustainable Waste Management, Cardiff County Council. Together with case study presentations from Powys County Council and Wealden District Council the conference demonstrated how to improve service delivery and meet the demands of waste policies.

At the conference ROCC launched the Uniclass Waste Management (UWM) software solution - a technically advanced software solution that supports and streamlines the administration of Waste Management, Refuse, Recycling and Cleaning services to domestic and trade customers and for public areas. UWM is scalable and integrates with corporate finance, document management, performance monitoring and real time systems to enable joined-up service planning, delivery and improvement.

Developed in the UK using Microsoft’s .NET framework, UWM connects office and mobile workers through an intuitive browser interface, sharing a database of properties, rounds, jobs, assets and contracts for domestic and trade customers. UWM modules include:

• Domestic Rounds

• Appointments for Special Collections

• Trade Waste Contracts (including Invoicing)

• Stores and Purchasing

• Container Management (e.g. bin deliveries and repairs)

• Complaints

• Clinical Waste

• Fly Tipping and Dead Animals

• Cesspool Management
